- Spring is here
It has been strange month. We have had unusually bad weather which has constrained work. The team wanted to complete the roof but this hasn’t been possible but has meant that they have made lots of progress inside the house which means that we are starting to get a sense of how the internal space will be – albeit with quite a lot of imagination!
We started to mark first fix electrics. First we had to do a very detailed review of what we wanted in each room. We then agreed this with the architects prior to a meeting with the electrician who marked the walls to show where things will go. We could only start the final part as there are still many walls missing and we can’t even access the top floor as there are no stairs but it felt like an important moment as we move forwards from fundamental construction.
The team had been waiting to pour the concrete for the new front terrace but needed to wait for a dry day. They crossed their fingers and went for it which turned out to be good though watching the fully laden cement lorry slide around in mud was a little unnerving. We now have a large concrete slab in front of the house ready for the same ventilated floor construction that has been used on the rest of the house. It is going to be a fantastic room!
The team have been working on the courtyard roof whenever possible and are making good progress with both the stone wall construction and the insulation/waterproofing layer on the roof itself. Everything in this picture will either be new stonewall or window – it is going to be a stunning room.
The ITPiscina team arrived to complete the preparations which involved adding a complex lattice of steel to the inside of the pool wall. The next stage is to spray concrete to make the walls – this should be quite dramatic and will give us a much better sense of how the pool will feel.
And we started another wall! We are now building a wall that will close off the end of the terrace area and is where the outside kitchen will be located. As we are now experienced wall builders (well – more experienced than when we started) it has felt much quicker this time only complicated by the fact that we are not totally sure of the internal level. Until the area is cleared of building materials and scaffolding we can’t be sure of the design.
