With stunning views of the Mariola natural park and Montcabrer, el Cipreret, the home of Mariola Secreta, is set amongst a vast area of pine and green oak forest in the heart of the Sierra de Mariola.
Just one hour drive from Alicante airport this area is one of Spain´s best kept secrets. Â
Derelict and unlived in for 50 years we set about restoring the 200 year old farmhouse into a fabulous venue for a wide range of long weekend retreats and events. What we have achieved is luxury with informality and a unique place where activity and relaxation fuse together in a truly stunning setting. If you´d like to see more we were lucky enough to have our restoration journey featured in a TV documentary – My Dream Derelict Home in the Sun (Episode 1). It is often repeated on HGTV-UK or alternatively is available to stream on Discovery+
We continue to work hard to protect the environment around us through solar powered eco electricity and pool heat pump, pellet boiler powered heating and hot water, self-contained wastewater system and home-grown fruit and vegetables. The heating and solar system was installed by a local company and they made this video about it. Everyone loves our rustic meets contemporary style with its attention to detail and hint of Spain. In the cooler months underfloor heating and wood burners keep you toasty warm. In the summer thick stone walls and ceiling fans ensure the house remains cool and inviting. Situated 900m above sea level summer nights offer a cooling break from the heat of the day.
The beautiful salt water 15m pool is perfect for serious swimmers and for post activity relaxation. The generous pool terrace has great views over the park and Montcabrer (our highest peak at almost 1400m and an easy one day hike). The pool is heated with our eco electricity which gives us an extended season of use from early May to early November (weather and sun dependent).
Â
Inside and outside, el Cipreret, has many special places to sit and relax or spend time catching up with friends. Leaving you feeling spoilt in a home from home way.
The Stable – this cosy sitting room has a wood burner for chilly winter evenings, a range of books and board games, TV and a wide collection of DVDs. The wide window seat overlooking the courtyard garden is a great place to relax with a book.
The Garden Terrace – Our 16 metre, fully glazed garden terrace room has stunning views across the garden, pool and natural park. There are two large seating areas in addition to the 14 seater dining table. A great all year round space with the ability to slide back all the windows and doors for an open terrace experience.Â
Open 24 hours a day, our guest bar and reception area is where you can help yourself to tea/ coffee and a wide range of drinks from our honesty bar. This space also has a large seating area to relax and spend time.Â
The enclosed Courtyard garden was originally home to sheep, pigs and horses! Now paved in traditional clay tiles and planted to create a lovely green and tranquil space. the old wrought iron gates were reclaimed from an old house in Valencia and look perfectly at home in their new space. By special request we can arrange celebration dining in the Courtyard.
Our enormous outside dining table has views across the park, the gardens and pool. Shaded by a beautiful sail it makes for a great drinks party, lunch or evening dining space.Â
The gardens around el Cipreret merge seamlessly with the surrounding park. There are numerous seating areas from which to enjoy the views.Â
Previously The Stables each of our five guest suites is set around a walled courtyard garden with private access from the courtyard.
We´re real foodies and take great pride in both growing our own and sourcing local ingredients.
